Campina Grande é uma daquelas cidades do interior nordestino que pre servam as raizes culturais de seu povo. Entre as manifestações populares mais expressivas, destaca-se o culto aos santos Antônio, Joao e Pedro, homenageado no mês de junho, portanto chamados santos juninos.
São João, entre os três, detém o maior número de devotos. Segundo a crena popular, ele é responsável pela colheita de milho e feijão-verde que se verifica na época. Mesmo quando não há fartura, o santo é homenageado com muita fé e festa.
Campina Grande apostou na afinidade do povo com São João e foi premia da com um rentável filão economico. Desde 1983 a segunda maior cidade da Paraiba, distante 116 Km da capital do Estado, João Pessoa, realiza o Maio São João do Mundo.
"Em Campina Grande, o Brasil vira forró." Com esse slogan o Maior Sãs João do Mundo ultrapassa as fronteiras do Nordeste para conquistar os mais longínquos recantos do pais, recebendo, anualmente, um púbico rotativo de um milhão de pessoas, no mês de junho
O forro pé-de-serra é o principal ingrediente da festa. Nas casas de shows nas ruas, nas agências bancárias, no comércio, enfim, em todos os espacos de Campina Grande, a alegria reforca o colorido que a cidade ganha, sobretudo onde ocorre o epicentro do Maior Sao Joao do Mundo: o Parque do Povo, de 42 mil metros quadrados.
O Parque do Povo é o que se pode chamar de imenso arraial. As cores das barracas, dos balões, das lâmpadas e dos adereços que compõem o cenário de Maior São João do Mundo se aliam à alegria do povo para referendar os versos do poeta Ronaldo Cunha Lima: "Grande festa nordestina. Forro a cada segundo. Nós fazemos em Campina, o Maior São João do Mundo".

CAMPINA GRANDE - THE GREATEST SAINT JOHN'S PARTY OF THE WORLD

Campina Grande is one of those inland cities that preserve the cultural roots of their people. Among the most expressive popular manifestations, there is the cult to the saints Antony, John and Petert hat are celebrated in June, and therefore are called the June saints.
Saint John has, among the three, the biggest number of devotees. According to the popular faith he is the responsible for the harvest of corn and of a local kind of green beans that occur at that time. Even when there is no bountiful crops the saint is celebrated with much faith and many parties.
Campina Grande has bet in the affinity of the people with Saint John and was awarded with a profitable economic source. Since 1983 the second largest city in Paraiba, 116km from João Pessoa, the State capital, holds the greatest Saint John's party of the world.
"In Campina Grande, Brazil becomes a forró." With that slogan, the Greatest Saint John's Party of the World leaves behind the northeastern frontiers to conquer the farthest comers of the country and receives annualy a flow of 1 million people in June.
The "forró pé-de-serra" is the main ingredient of the party. In the houses of shows, in the streets, in the bank offices, in the shops, in short, in all spaces of Campina Grande, the joy strengthens the colors that involve the city, especially where the epicenter of the Greatest Saint John's Party of the World is located: the People's Park, an area of 42.000 m2.
The People's Park is what we may call of a big hamlet. The colorful barracks, the balloons, the lights and the ornaments that compose the scenario of the Greatest Saint John's Party of the World together with the people's joy make true the verses of the poet Ronaldo Cunha Lima: "Great northeastern party. 'Forró' at each second. We make in Campina the Greatest Saint John's Party of the World".
